Empowering Women Together

About the Conference

​HERS-EA invites academics, researchers, higher education leaders, policymakers, innovators, practitioners, graduate students, industry actors, development partners, and other stakeholders from East Africa and beyond to submit abstracts and proposals for the Inaugural HERS-EA International Conference 2027, themed “AI Revolution & Digital Transformation in Higher Education.” The conference will provide a platform to share research and innovations, build networks and collaborations, and advance responsible, inclusive, and sustainable AI and digital transformation in higher education, with particular attention to women’s leadership, participation, and research visibility. The programme will feature expert keynotes, research presentations, Women in STEM sessions, leadership panels, networking and mentorship, awards, and an exhibition of innovative AI solutions.

Presentation and Participation Formats​

Applicants may submit proposals in any of the following formats:


•    Individual academic paper presentation – Original research aligned with one conference track.
•    Practitioner or policy presentation – Evidence-informed institutional practice, programme learning, policy analysis, or a case study.
•    Panel proposal – A coordinated session featuring a chair or moderator and multiple speakers addressing a shared question.
•    Roundtable – A facilitated discussion designed to generate learning, recommendations, or collaboration around an emerging issue.
•    Workshop or masterclass – An interactive, skills-based session with clearly stated learning outcomes.
•    Poster presentation – A concise visual presentation of research, work in progress, programme evidence, or an innovation.
•    Innovation demonstration or exhibition – A live or visual showcase of an AI or digital solution relevant to higher education.
