Cabinet Minister gives locally made reusable sanitary pads the thumbs up

This year’s International Women’s Day celebrations in Bulambuli District were held on Saturday, 9th March 2019, with a focus on Menstrual Hygiene. The Guest of Honour, the Hon. Engineer Irene Muloni, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, hailed a local women’s group, Elgon Pads, supported by HERS-EA and a UK based charity, African Village Support (www.africanvillagesupport.org), for producing high quality reusable sanitary pads, to help address menstrual hygiene.

Hon Irene Muloni, who launched the sanitary pads (HERSpad), distributed 108 packets to schoolgirls who reside locally, in, Kefa Mukoota Memorial Girls Hostel, St. Peter Claver Girls hostel and Nabbongo S.S Girls hostel. She thanked HERS-EA for supporting women in Bulambuli by focusing on menstrual hygiene among women and girls. She encouraged women to buy and use reusable sanitary pads because they are durable and affordable.

The celebration was graced by the presence of  Hon. Mudimi; Hon. Burundo Alex; Hon. Sarah Wekomba; Bulambuli District Chairman LCV, Councilors, stakeholders and community members.
